Varan is a simple Dhal reciepe with some seasoning. In India dhal is used in all states as a side dish for rice or with roti.In maharastra, without Varan and Thoop(ghee), bhath(white plain rice) is not served at any meals. For simple meal a varan bhath and bhaaji(curry)can be served.I made a varan with simla mirchi.I share this for Nupur's RCI.
